Overall Average Costs for Complete Builds Ready to Run

Hello Pete!

I have taken interest in building a CNC. I’ve done quite some browsing around at different units.

  1. V1 Engineering’s MPCNC
  2. ROOTCNC
  3. IndyMill

They all seem pretty awesome. V1 Engineering has a pretty awesome kit, though I get a feeling that your system, probably has better tolerances and will hold true better than the MPCNC.

I would like to undertake your build. I do not make a whole lot of money and so this is an important factor for me.

I am hoping that you might help to save me some time by giving me an idea on the amount of money needed to get one of your units milling. By that I mean down to tooling and any other auxiliary things that aren’t a point of your build.

While this is my own question it might be helpful to a lot of people as they won’t have to sift through the build list and do their own searching. If you listed an average cost, it might help people decide faster, etc. I know that it is opensource and so it could be difficult to answer this kind of question, but there must be a baseline price which would allow someone to fully build and start milling. What is that?

With that it would be great to see that costs for the different versions.

Sincerely,
Thor

Hi Thor,

Thank you for asking this question on the forum!

clearly I am biased but Root CNC for the win

but here is a rough costing for the machines:

  • 4 ~£1200 but mine is a considerably larger machine so saving can be made here!
  • 4 Lite £450-550
  • 3 Lite £450-530
  • 3 Unsure its been a while
  • Root 2 is not recommended as the newer machine out perform it.

I hope that helps
Kind regards Pete
