Root 3 belts skating

So I noticed some extra friction at certain points on the Y Axis and with further investigation, tracked it down to belts skating on the bearings for the Y gantry belt, and rubbing against the bearing cap.

It reminds me of a belt sander where you have an adjustment screw to prevent skating.

Any tips on rectifying this?

Hey,

I found the way you clamp those belt down - have a massive effect on this behaviour you’re seeing.

The two attributes you need to consider are the left and right placement of the belt within the clamps and also the rotation of the belt within the clamps.

you’ve got two fixes:

Quick fix: add an additional bearing to allow more room for the skating to take place on - there is a limit where it stops happening and the extra bearing will offer this.

Fix which takes more time: investigate which belt has the most rotation in them and solve this. This is done through some trial and error but is the route I took to get it running smoothly.

I hope that helps!
