Root 4 Lite maintenance

Hi all,

Would be curious what maintenance people do and recommend on Root CNCs? The ballscrews in particularly are new to me - how often should I lubricate and any special tools required? Presumably otherwise just wipe down screws and apply light oil from time to time, ensure everything is tight?

Hey Rob,

Firstly, keeping the ball screws clean is key for a long running life. They are surprisingly resistant but its always wise to keep them clean.

For maintenance, I don’t have a schedule per say but I do regularly blow the dust off, clean the rails and oil the ball screws and linear rails.

For cleaning: a blow down with the air line first, followed by some blue-role. to remove any baked on grime.

I try and not touch the ball screw with anything but if I did, I’ll use a clean blue-role rag and remove and debris. try to remove the grime with a clean sheet of blue-role. After which, I’ll clean it with WD40 and then re-oil and grease the ball screw-nut - this it.

linear rail wise - again just a wipe down with blue role and then oil.

Its something I do regularly but not to a time schedule, normally when the machine is looking dusty!

trying not to crash the machine - makes its run for longer

Many thanks Pete. Handy advice there.
