Hi, just joined. I am interested in building the root 3. I have enough 1x1 square tube 1/8 wall to build a machine with about 20x22 work area. The calculator said 520mm x 580mm.
Speaking of metric and imperial, can this be built with imperial equivalent hardware? If not, is there a common source of metric hardware everyone is using?
On the penny washers, what are the recommended OD? Also, the m3 screws have 5 sizes and 100 qty. Is that for each size?
Any help is appreciated, thank you!
Also, got my printer this weekend and getting used to it.
At monsterbolts.com I was able to find everything but
M3 rivet nuts
M4 countersink screws
M8 connecting bar
M8 lead screw
M8 collar
They offer packages of 10, 25, 50, or 100 of each. Very handy.
Total is $88 on everything on the Bom except what I listed.
My abs filament will be here tomorrow and I can hopefully dial in my printer (voxelab aquila). Hopefully print the carriages next week and I can try on my steel box sections.
M3 rivet nuts - are used on the Z axis mounting plate and are used to fix the linear rails to the mounting plate - I don’t think there are alternatives?
M4 countersink screws - could you search for “M4 Countersunk bolt”?
M8 connecting bar - this bar is dependant on the bearings and pullies used on the Y Axis linking rod - you could change this without any issues, providing you’ve change the bearing and pully size.
M8 lead screw - this can be called ACME lead screw
M8 collar - have you looked on Aliexpress?
fingers crossed you can find these! I must admit, here in the UK I don’t have theses sourcing issues.
